Novus Group Names Mark Horan to Lead New PR and Content Strategy Group
Firm Also Adds Campaign Experts Greg Maynard and Kate Crowther to Provide Additional Grassroots Consulting for Political and Corporate Clients
BOSTON, February 20, 2018 – The Novus Group, one of New England’s most innovative and fastest growing public affairs firms, has hired former Rasky Partners Senior Vice President Mark Horan to create a new strategic communications and content division.
“As our company has expanded over the past four years, communications has become more and more central to our work and today’s announcement makes it clear that we’re making a significant investment in this area,” said Novus CEO Frank Perullo. “We offer a suite of services that is unlike our competition because it includes government affairs, community outreach, polling, and digital media, among other services. Mark’s expertise in content creation, crisis communications and issues management allows us to add high-level strategic communications consulting to our service package.”
Horan, who will serve as executive vice president, has been a communications strategist for U.S. Senator Ed Markey and Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone and managed communications for five recent Massachusetts ballot initiatives. He has also worked for AT&T and Engage, an online advertising pioneer. At Rasky, he managed corporate clients such as Citizens Bank, Global Partners, and Uber. He has provided crisis counsel to Massachusetts General Hospital and Deloitte Consulting, among others.
The Novus Group was founded by Frank Perullo and Paul Scapicchio, a partnership that dates back to the late 1990s when the two created and implemented a data-driven outreach strategy utilizing campaign management software that lead to a first-time challenger unseating a popular incumbent. As the firm has grown, it has continued to use innovative approaches that give its clients – including Airbnb, Ameresco, Zipcar, Mayflower Medicinals, New England Clean Energy Connect, Lendlease and Union Square Station Associates – unique ways to reach and engage stakeholders.
“As part of our continued growth, we want to offer communications solutions that are as innovative and as cutting edge as our existing offerings,” said Paul Scapicchio, president of the firm. “Mark’s ability to develop unique solutions to media and content challenges and to work quickly and effectively in crisis situations makes him a perfect complement to our team.”
In another move to expand its current services, the firm also announced it has hired Gregory Maynard and Kate Crowther to provide strategic campaign consulting for both political and corporate clients.
Maynard has managed several recent successful local elections, including Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone’s re-election and the high-profile initiative to keep Lowell High School downtown. Kate Crowther has more than a decade’s worth of experience managing government relations and outreach campaigns for private sector and non-profit organizations.
